To Our Chapters, Supporters and Friends

Scholarship America is facing the same type of economic challenges as many for-profit and not-for-profit organizations across the country. As a result, I regret to inform you that effective July 3, 2009, the New York Dollars for Scholars office has closed. Starting July 6, New York chapters will be supported by David Duncan and Lynne Zervas of the New England Dollars for Scholars regional office, with additional support provided by national Dollars for Scholars staff. We believe this decision not only continues Scholarship America’s commitment to keeping operational costs low, but will also continue our commitment to providing Dollars for Scholars chapters with high quality and responsive support.

Starting July 6, all e-mails and phone calls to the New York office will be forwarded to the New England office. You may also reach the New England office by calling 1-800-335-4360, by e-mailing Lynne Zervas, Director of Chapter Support Services, or by visiting their Web site at ne.dollarsforscholars.org. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the New England staff. In the near future, you will be receiving correspondence from the New England office, and you will continue to receive regular communications from the national Dollars for Scholars office including the monthly in-Touch e-newsletter. While we acknowledge and regret the loss of P-L Schroeppel on our staff, please know that we are fully committed to providing excellent service to you. We appreciate your dedication to the students and communities you serve, and we will work hard to ensure that you have the information and support you need.

In closing, I want to be clear that this was an extremely difficult business decision to make and in no way reflects the outstanding service provided by P-L. As you know, P-L has worked tirelessly over the last seven years to support Dollars for Scholars in the state of New York. She has provided countless workshops and individual consultations for chapters, hosted an annual state conference, fostered key relationships with local and regional partners, and has expanded the reach of Dollars for Scholars throughout the state. Her legacy in New York will live on, as will her commitment to Dollars for Scholars. As you may know, P-L is active in her own chapter (Dollars for Scholars of Taconic Hills). No doubt, P-L will continue to have a significant impact in the New York Dollars for Scholars community. On behalf of everyone at Scholarship America, we wish P-L all the best!

Thank you in advance as we make this transition and many thanks for the work you do.

Sincerely,

Mary Wynne
Assistant Vice President, National Programs
